As with hiring any trades person or professional, you will want to do your homework. Whether there has been a personal referral, or you have sourced through a directory; there are a few steps to take that will insure that you gain the most from this relationship.
- If possible and practical, meet in your home. An initial 15 minute consultation should be ‘free of charge’’.
- Do you feel comfortable with this designer?
- Do they listen to your needs and concerns?
- Are they respectful of your own ideas? Don’t be shy. Ask for references and to see their portfolio.
- Ask also for how they bill it may be by the hour, or a percentage of the entire cost of the project, or by a pre determined blanket cost for the services required.
