There are a number of key factors to consider when decorating on a budget.
- Do your homework.
Spend the time to determine the look you would like to achieve. If you are unsure, an hour’s consultation with a designer that you are comfortable with is money well spent. Changes ‘midstream’ can be costly and with proper direction and clarity of your goal, and are easily avoided. - Determine your budget.
- Go shopping!
With your camera that is. Collect pictures of furnishings and fixtures you like. (be sure to note costs) Collect samples of fabric, paint, flooring, ceramics, trim boards etc. - Are you a DIY sort of person or are you hiring trades, if considering more than just a change of paint and furnishings?
- Regarding hiring trades, please note the section devoted specifically to this. subsection to include:
- the importance of permits
- where to look for a tradesman
- WCB certification
- expectations
